Course Description

The Building Trades Program covers the carpentry, plumbing, masonry, and electrical trades.  “Hands-on” projects help students learn about blueprint reading, building layout, house framing, residential wiring, plumbing and masonry.

2. Safety

Students will follow all safety rules, maintain tools and equipment, dress appropriately, describe the Right To Know Law and describe pertinent OSHA regulations.

3. Integrated Academics

Students will research and collect data, facts, ideas and concepts from a variety of sources (spoken, written, and electronic) for assigned projects and for a variety of purposes; interpret and analyze information collected to develop and implement an industry related project plan; incorporate relevant experience, data ideas and other information to complete projects to industry standards; develop a summary project presentation that involves analysis and an evaluation of the project outcome; evaluate their own role and the role of teammates using predetermined criteria in completion of the project; and communicate with peers, teachers, customers and employers for a variety of purposes.

4. Employability Skills

Students will find, evaluate, choose and use technical manuals and trade journals.

Certifications

The Building Trades Program offers the following certifications:

  • Fork Truck Operator Safety

  • HEAT (Home Energy Analyst Technician)

  • OSHA 10 Construction

  • OSHA 10 General Industry

  • First Aid

  • CPR/AED

Articulation Agreements

Students in the Building Trades Program may receive advanced placement or college credit through:
