Welding & Metal Fabrication

Instructor: Mark Holbrook

Program Length

2 Year Program

Program Description

Welding and Metal Fabrication program provides students with basic preparation in welding theory and principles and includes the use of welding equipment, tools, and materials. Once students have learned the basics, the majority of the class work is hands-on. Students work to perfect their welding and fabrication skills by practicing on real life projects. Students with prior knowledge in mathematics and chemistry will find this to their advantage. Students interested in the welding program need to be motivated, patient and able to follow multi-step instructions. Students also need to have the ability to work independently as well as within a group. Students must be willing to take the initiative and follow through until their work is completed. Since welding can be potentially dangerous, students must be consistent about safety precautions and wearing the required protective eyewear and clothing.

Throughout the course, students gain the skills and competence to become Department of Transportation (DOT) certified welders. This test is given each year at NCOC. Students who complete the course are able to gain employment in the welding of steels, stainless steels, aluminum and blueprint reading at many different levels.
